Palm has promised a new phone in 2009 with an entirely new platform and a new hardware. Not to long ago, Palm had hired a former Apple engineer (Jon Rubinstein) who was involved in the creation of the iPod, as its head of product development.

To buy time until the release of the new phone, Palm has announced the Treo™ Pro smartphone. The device will sell unlocked for $549 which is kind of high for carrier subsidized US phone market. The specs for Treo™ Pro are here. The details of new Palm phone are not available yet.

The price isn't high. It's just not discounted. I'd get one if I wasn't already contracted to dumb Sprint.
