Suggestion to Sprint

A suggestion to Sprint was posted here. Copy and paste follows:

"A large number of Sprint Instinct users are upset about the poor performance of included browser and also about the browser crash on a number of popular websites. However, most of these users are hopeful. Hopeful because of Instinct's "supposed" Java MIDP 2.0 compliance which could potentially allow these users to run Opera Mini 4.1 browser on their Instinct phone. This is a lightweight browser that runs even on the most basic handsets that support Java but isn't usable on Instinct because of a missing hardware keyboard and missing virtual keyboard implementation.

Suggestion to Sprint

  1. Set up a conference call with Opera this week.
  2. Tell them that Sprint is interested in a custom/OEM version of Opera Mini 4.1 for their popular Instinct phone.
  3. Ask Opera to create a custom version of Opera Mini for Instinct that supports Instinct's SIWL (Sprint Instinct Widget Library) keyboard.
  4. Work with Opera to make sure that this browser is delivered as soon as possible (a simple download of .jad/.jar installers from Opera's website will work while OTA delivery options are thought out).
  5. Happy Instinct customers!

Benefits to Sprint

  1. Happy customers!
  2. Increased Instinct sales!
  3. Reduced network traffic (Opera Mini compresses web pages significantly) and better network utilization!
  4. Improved customer retention!

So why wouldn't Sprint do this???"

That would involve Sprint publicly admitting that their browser sucks monkeys. They are not going to do that.

The keyboard issue is important, but it is also overshadowing other issues. Can anyone tell me if Sprint have even acknowledged the fact that the browser, etc crashes on a very regular basis? While I want to see third party apps work on the Instinct, I would be (a bit) happier if they'd just fix the ones that are already there! Just a thought...

I fully agree. There's no reason for Samsung/Sprint to reinvent the wheel by trying to make a Instinct specific browser work. I'm using it right now and it sucks. I'm very familiar with Opera for desktop. It would be a major selling point for Sprint vs. the iPhone to start getting some apps for Instinct. We have the superior network.

Sprint isn't going to consider this because they probably know that the Instinct is a lost cause. And since the Touch and TouchPro is coming out, why would they even bother? I swear I regret buying this phone so much.

Could it Be Sprint is working on a New Browser For the Instinct and Other sprint Phones? And not interested in the Java Fix to run Opera Til the new one is ready.
The Instinct 1.0 Browser is crap.

I've never had more frustration out of one phone. How could they have so called done so much testing on this phone to release this many problems and lack of..? You would swear this phone was created in someones GARAGE!

I have never actually had a problem with the phone, it is a little aggravating though that it does not work with any apps.

if you havnt had problems with the phone, then i bet you havnt had it long. the problems that most users are reporting is something that develops after time and gets worse as it goes on. if your in your 30day return period, i would say return it and either wait until Sprint fix the issues and rebuy, or go for something different. Just my opinion...

What Dentpuzz said. I'm telling everyone I know that's within their 30 days to return their Instincts. I'm not just talking bad about Samsung and Sprint here for no reason, they really just ripped us off with this device. The plan is great, don't get me wrong, but wow.
